Introduction

This document started out as an exegesis of the (very few) references on HPF in 1993 and 1994, endured an explosion in 1995,[*] and has now absorbed 1996 developments. In Supercomputing '95 (December 1995) things returned to normal perspective, but solid gains were noted (e.g. IBM finally announced their HPF effort). Think of this document as an annotated HPF bibliography.

It is clear that the years between 1993 and 1996 did not see the death of HPF; in fact HPF is undergoing research and development all over the world, as evidenced in this report. One could wonder what 1997 would bring. The first thing it brought was a special issue of Scientific Programming, ``HPF Comes of Age.'' The next thing it brought was the first annual HPF Users Group meeting in Santa Fe, in February.
